MOUSAM LAKE COTTAGE, Shapleigh Maine

This project is 40' from the shore of Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine.  The seasonal cabin was expanding by the allowed 30%, weatherizing, the shell reinforced to be used year round, and the interior reworked to make better space for higher quality lake-side living. 

This project was published in the first issue of a New England periodical, Place..in the Make- Places, Makers, Thoughts, printed in 2017 

Furniture is by FURNITUREA, design and crafted locally in Maine

materials

The existing 2x4 stud walls are insulated with closed cell spray foam and the ceilings with cellulose.  The exterior is a combination of VG western red cedar, prepainted cement board siding, American Granite stone veneer and Jeld-Wen windows.  The interiors are maple flooring and nickel gap pine finished with a custom white wash stain.    Rain Screen mat from Advanced Building Products was used behind the wood and stone veneers- MORTAIRVENT- 10mm
