Design Concept: A new house for a retired couple on the edge of Sebago Lake, Maine. The couple desired a distinctive single-level house capturing the character of Maine and maximizing the experience of lake-side living.
The home utilizes inventive plan strategies to isolate bedroom areas from the main living spaces, dramatically lit cathedral spaces, accessible circulation into the house and throughout the first floor and patios. An early goal of the project was to get the main living areas of the house as close to the lake as Maine's Shoreland zoning would allow. In an effort to do this, the second level guest areas were set back from the lake to allow for the primary living spaces to be pushed forward.
