We designed this home for a retired couple looking to add a primary suite to their deeply wooded home in mid-coast Maine. They requested that we preserve as many trees as possible and give them a deeply immersive place of rest within the forest. We developed a linear form with large glass openings to focus away from the house, so they it felt remote to their existing home. We included an all-glass bridge to span between the existing home and the new suite and then rotated the suite to thread itself through some of the larger trees.
The structure is to be built on helical piers with all lumber hand carried in from the gravel drive.
