ALL-WHITE FARMHOUSE ADDITION, Falmouth Maine

The owners of this historic farmhouse in Falmouth, Maine were interested in adding a self-contained, on-site apartment for their mother/in-law.  Using the square footage of the farmhouse as a starting point, the Falmouth building code allowed us 875 feet for the venture.  With this small footprint and a strict construction budget we developed a floor plan that completely eliminated any transition hallways and combined certain programmatic uses to improve efficiency. We worked through several iterations with Island Cove Building and Development to hit the target budget while still maintaining some higher end features including a flush-entry custom shower, various built-ins for storage, and a pull-through carport that attaches to the existing house, allowing her a covered connection to the family home. This project was completed in 2017.
