PORTLAND OVERLOOK- Berwick Street, Portland Maine

This existing yellow house is almost a century old with a great view of downtown Portland, Maine from the end of the street, or just 2 stories above the ground. There is an even better view, however, from the 4th level!  At the request of the owners, this project was conceived in the picturesque language of the Florida development of Seaside. The characteristic Seaside features of outside decks, multiple roof lines, a tower element, and roof deck were arranged to give the owners both a strong sculptural character and a rich waterfront experience ovelooking the City.  The predominant view to across the bay and into Portland is facing South so the concentration of viewing windows also allows high quality light to enter deep into the spaces.

The first floor expansion gives a more open plan, with larger spaces to bleed out on the first level deck.  The second level includes the kids and guest bedrooms, and family bathroom.  The third level is the master suite with a private, south-facing deck to take advantage of both the sun and views.  The fourth level is a two-tiered roof deck allowing long-distant views in all directions.
