This project is on the edge of the industrial waterfront in South Portland for a young family of 6. The original house was built early in this century and is a classic cape style. Over the years, many poorly planned additions have been added onto the house creating poor interior spaces and considerable disorder to the building form. We were hired to give the owners better views, mitigate the glaring afternoon sun, and to remedy the space and form confusion of the house.
The current design proposes a screened porch, roof deck off the new master suite, a renovated second floor bathroom, and various strategic reorganzations inside to help the owners maximize the space they already have. Energy upgrades of high performance windows, careful air sealing, and added blown-in-cellulose in attic areas will be considered as we move into the design development phase of the project. Construction completed in 2021.
